Baby’s Skin is even more sensitive than once thought …

Things To Look For In Baby Products For Proper Grooming And Skin Care

Baby products for proper grooming and skin care should be formulated to gently moisturize, cleanse and heal. A newborn’s skin is very sensitive to drying and rashes because the sweat and oil glands are not fully developed. Their skin may need to be bathed and wiped more often, even if it is due to frequent diaper changing, drooling or “spit-up” accidents. This means your newborn’s skin health is dependent on the baby products you select for their grooming and skin care.

Many new parents aren’t willing to try new varieties of items for cleaning and moisturizing, because there are popular baby products that have been around many years and their formulations have been proven safe and effective for the majority of newborns. It is important to recognize that some newborns may have allergic reactions to different laundry soaps, shampoos, body washes, powders, or lotions. If you start to see rashes, you should be able to rule out the baby products you are using, keep in mind that some rashes are normal, and might not be related to a product. Examples of this are diaper rash and baby acne.

It is always best to find baby products that contain the fewest ingredients, and paediatricians and parents agree that natural ingredient baby products are highly desirable. There are many essential oils that can be moisturizing and there are some baby shampoos and body washes that are hydrating and sanitizing. If your newborn has allergic tendencies, natural ingredients may be the safest things to use.

Regardless of what type of skin your newborn has, you should consider a few of the basic baby products, for proper grooming and skin care. Specially formulated shampoos, body washes, soaps and moisturizing lotions may be considered necessities around Bath Time, but the powders or petroleum jelly you use during diaper changes can keep your newborn’s bottom dry and protected.

Parents use baby wipes for many different purposes, including bathing their newborn for the first few months. Look for the wipes that offer moisturizing and anti-bacterial properties. Those that have high alcohol contents may offer some sanitization, but they can be quite drying on the newborn’s skin. This is commonly the case with the cheaper off-brands products. When in doubt, look at the labels to determine the ingredients before you purchase, because there are more affordable brands available that offer plenty of moisturizing and sanitizing capability, without the worry of drying your baby’s skin.

When you have a Baby Shower, it is likely that you will receive a variety of baby products, many of them in pre-made gift baskets. So you will have plenty of wipes, shampoos, lotions and body washes or powders to select from. Just make sure when you begin using these that you check that they are good for your baby’s skin. You can experiment with a few if you like, but it is best to try and weed out those that have artificial ingredients that may cause your baby undo reactions.

Remember that your newborn has sensitive skin, so you may need to try several different brands before you are able to find the cleansing and moisturizing balance that are needed for your baby.
