Expectant parents get excited about decorating their baby’s room as part of their preparation for their newborn. When searching for decorating tips to use on babies room because you aren’t sure where to start don’t feel alone. It is better to get advice outside of the typical painting of pastel colours and even if you are thinking about adding a theme to baby’s room you should give it careful consideration.

Some of the leading interior designers offer decorating tips and they might contradict some of the traditional advice you may hear:

Wall Colours:

Since newborns grow so quickly, wall colours should not be confined to the traditional pinks or blues and yellows or greens. In fact, leading interior designers advise thinking about room colour and décor that will last several years. This means you can incorporate white or ivory collared walls and add a chair rail, with a wallpaper wainscoting of plaids, stripes, checks or small patterns. Adding a wallpaper border at the ceiling can add interest for the baby, while they are lying in their crib.

Accessories:

Incorporating shelving at various heights with collections of toys can add interest to the room and add visual stimulation for your newborn. The toys can be changed as the newborn progresses into a toddler and school age child. Not only can this help you transition a room and easily make decorating changes, but also you can incorporate your child’s interests as they develop.

Themes:

Many interior designers are now advising against themes for baby’s room because they limit your ability to change the room and themes can come and go. If you make the room interesting enough there is no need to stick with a certain theme, which can become boring to the child and the parents.

Ceilings:

Don’t forget about ceiling treatments you can incorporate into babies room to add interest. In fact, from newborn to youth, children love ceilings that resemble the sky, whether you paint blue with white fluffy clouds or navy with glow-in-the-dark moons, stars and planets. It is a visually interesting effect that seems to never grow old.

Storage:

Interior designers that specialize in baby’s room will tell you to incorporate plenty of closed storage for toys and clothing. If you incorporate window seats, you can provide a stage for Barbie to dance on in later years or a platform for the model airplanes and race cars that might come along later. Think about multiple purpose features you can incorporate into your newborn babies room because the room can be easily transformed as the child grows.

Windows:

Always avoid corded window treatments because they pose a safety threat to toddlers that might get wrapped up in them, inadvertently. While you might not think this is a possibility, it happens to children because they like to grab them or swing from them. Think about colourful window screening, shutters or other types of window treatment that might be interesting yet safe.

These are just a few of the decorating tips for baby’s room that you should think about. Once your newborn arrives, you can stimulate its senses and because you will be busy parents, you can avoid a major room redecorating for many years to come, if you plan for the changing interests of your child as he or she grows.
